What Didn't Happen During Week 13??

If I could come up with one word to describe the past week, it would be "nonstop." Nonstop grading. Nonstop planning. Nonstop after-school activities. Nonstop long hours. Nonstop FUN! Each day was packed full from start to finish, and while it might have felt like too much as some points, it was overall a fun week and allowed me to get extra time with my cooperating teachers and students before I leave next Friday.

Daily Recap:

Two days this week, students in Vet Science got to practice bandaging dogs paws with 6 different fur-friends! My cooperating teacher brought in two of her dogs, two of her in-laws dogs, and then another teacher at Pequea Valley brought in 2 dogs (which happened to be one of my ct's dogs puppies from last year). While this added to the chaos of the week, it was really neat to get students to get real-life experience bandaging animals, plus who doesn't love having cute animals at their work all day?!

Potty breaks with sisters Ivy and Willow! You can kind of see their mother, Molly, in the background. It was hard to believe that they came from Molly!

Bailey was a great sport, but was wondering why her paw was wrapped 10 times throughout the week when clearly nothing was wrong with it!

Monday and Tuesday kicked off the ALL IN conference for Pequea Valley FFA students, which was 6-8 in the evening. Both days, students stayed after school until the conference which gave them time to work on school work, FFA degree applications, and hang out with each other before the conference even started. We had dinner and snacks provided both nights and the students had so much fun interacting with each other and members from across PA. I thought that Pequea Valley students were very engaged, responsive, and respectful during the virtual conference and they really loved the goodie box that was shipped to the school. The ALL IN conference was definitely different, but was a great way for students to get the FFA conference experience while following COVID guidelines. This conference was a huge deal at Pequea Valley, as it was the first time many students were able to stay after school for an activity and be with friends and fellow members.

Wednesday and Thursday were also very long days, as I helped with judges/assisting with the Parliamentary Procedure and Extemporaneous LDEs for the regional level. I really enjoyed being apart of these competitions and it also allowed me to "brush up" on my knowledge of how these competitions look and are ran. I really valued these experiences!

On Tuesday and Wednesday, I also had the opportunity to be apart of those that interviewed FFA officer candidates for next year. This was also really fun and different for me because while I had served in multiple FFA offices in high school, I never had to be interviewed for them. I was much harder than I anticipated and I learned so much about the process. I can't wait till next years officer team is announced next Wednesday at the FFA banquet!

What is a crazy week if the final day isn't virtual?? All week, teachers and students were waiting to be virtual at any given moment as once again, COVID cases spiked in the district. While these days are necessary for the safety of the students, it also hurts students that are already behind and do not feel the need to log on. I was happy with the amount of students that showed up for class, but also understand that learning at home is difficult for many. Overall, this virtual one was not too bad, but I really hope that it is my LAST one until I complete student teaching next week.

What to Look Forward To:

Next week will mark the 13th and FINAL week of student teaching. It has been a crazy, excited ride and I will be sad to part ways with Pequea Valley. Luckily, before I leave I will have many responsibilities and activities to be a part of, with the main one being the FFA Banquet and an AG Olympics Field Day. This will also be an amazing opportunity for students to be with each other at the school (outside of the classroom), which is an opportunity they have not had this year.

I have lots to do this weekend and next week, but I know that each day will be exciting and packed full!

#PSUAGED21, how will you be spending your final week at your cooperating schools?

Fully Embodying the 3-Circle Model of Ag Ed!

Each week of student teaching seems to go by faster than the last. As I spend my Friday reflection on week four of student teaching, I can't help but to smile at all the activities, meetings, and observations that took place. Thus far, I have only been teaching Agricultural Mechanics and Veterinary Science and they both have been going great. I will soon be adding Horticulture to the mix!  My highlights from the week include:  A soldering demonstration Preparing for a fetal pig dissection An FFA Officer Team meeting My first SAE visit (to view this blog, click here) #GLAG21 On Tuesday, I started teaching Ag Mechanics with a soldering demonstration so that the students could watch and ask questions about soldering before they practiced for themselves. Unfortunately, time got the best of me and my demonstration ended up taking an entire class period. If I could do this differently, I would try to condense this demonstration or set up stations so that the students could start pra...

All Good Thing Must Come to an End

This week was my very last week student teaching at Pequea Valley High School and a fun one to end on. Right now, I am only reaching one class and it is the class that I taught the full 14 weeks. We had a HUGE event take place that I felt very fortunate to be a part of and there were many sad goodbyes and thank you's.  Vet Science was the class that I had from start to finish, so naturally, I began slightly attached to every part of this class. We had the fetal pig dissection, animal restraints, bandaging, suturing, and more! Every step of the way was pushing myself outside of my comfort zone and learning new content areas. This week, the focus was on suturing, which is one of the topics that I was most excited to learn. While we only spent a few days on this, I learned so much about knot tying and techniques. For this lesson, I performed a demonstration on how to tie a knot for suturing and then students practiced on rulers. It was a fun lesson overall, and the students were pros ...

Well That was a Blur

As I am writing this blog and reflecting on this past week of student teaching, I'm left wondering what even happened. It was one of those weeks where one day you woke up and it was week 5 of student teaching and by the end of the day it is already week 6! This past week started with no school on Monday, and ended with a snow day and a virtual learning day (because of the snow). So with only one full in-school session and another half day of in-school learning, I don't have many days to reflect on, but I do have so much to look forward to! Recap of Week 5: Students are still working on soldering in Intro to Ag Mechanics, and I am realizing how hard it is to have students in completely different places in the shop. I know that most of that has to do with COVID, but I also know that this could happen any year with sicknesses, sports, etc. It is hard to manage students in a shop that are ready to move onto the next project, and still have some that need a demonstration to start th...
